Our Mission
A Family’s Promise Inc is dedicated to supporting families affected by gun violence. Founded in memory of Isaiah Laverpool, who was tragically taken from us in 2009, our mission is to provide healing, resources, and a sense of community for those navigating the aftermath of loss. No family should endure this pain alone. Together, we can create a future of hope, healing, and advocacy.
The Urgent Need
Every day, 120 Americans are killed by gun violence, leaving countless families devastated. In low-income, inner-city communities, gun violence deepens cycles of trauma and hardship. Many affected families struggle with not only grief but also financial instability and a lack of access to support services. A Family’s Promise is here to change that.
Our Story
In 2009, Kellie Nixon lost her 27-year-old son, Isaiah, to gun violence. With no immediate support system, her family struggled emotionally and financially. Then, she found a community of survivors, which inspired her to become part of the solution. Now, alongside her son Salim, she leads A Family’s Promise, advocating for sensible gun laws and providing support to families facing the same unimaginable loss.
